31 March 2020
9:00 to 10:30 AM EDT
Many of you have started asking about the practicalities of implementing cash grants to cover informal workers. There is a never a one size fits all solution, but you may be interested to hear Ugo Gentilini (World Bank) on the topic of Basic Income in this upcoming webinar on socialprotection.org.
Organiser: World Bank Group Social Protection & Jobs Global Practice
Universal basic income (UBI) is emerging as a hotly-debated issue in social protection. Currently, the debate is reaching new heights as countries are considering UBI as part of COVID-19 response packages. Drawing from a recent book on the subject, the webinar will review key issues and evidence on UBI as a social protection measure; identify emerging lessons from a variety of cross-country experiences; and reflect on its potential and limitations as a crisis response as well as longer-term intervention.
This is the first webinar of the “Social protection response to COVID-19” webinar series. The series is a joint effort initiated by the IPC-IG, GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ), and the Australia Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) collaboration with the socialprotection.org platform, and in cooperation with partners from different organisations.
