DESCRIPTION
Public Affairs Section (PAS) interest in project relating to:
• Promoting economic and business development through entrepreneurism, innovation and technology, especially among women
• Enhancing youth employability
• Development of a bilingual work force
• Democracy, civic education, civil society and community engagement
• Empowerment of women, youth and people with disabilities
Proposals will be evaluated and scored according to the following criteria:
- Quality of the Program Plan: Competitive proposals will promote one or more of the Embassy’s Mission Goals: economic prosperity; security; and democracy with social inclusion for all, in Nicaragua; and all programs must have a U.S. component such as a U.S. speaker or expert. (30 points)
- Ability to Achieve Program Objectives: Applications should clearly demonstrate how the applicant will meet the objectives. Activities should be reasonable and feasible, and the application should clearly detail how activities will be carried out. Objectives should be clear, measurable, and have a well-articulated timeline. (30 points)
- Project Evaluation: Proposals should include a plan to evaluate the activity’s success, both as the activities unfold and at the end of the program. A draft survey questionnaire or other technique and a description of methodology to link outcomes to original project objectives are recommended. (20 points)
- Budget and Narrative Justification: The budget and narrative justification are complete and reasonable in relation to the proposed activities and anticipated results. The plan for services and related cost estimates is realistic. (20 points)
Interested organizations will need to submit a written proposal along with all Application documents in English. If the proposal is submitted in Spanish, an English translation should be provided.
The complete grant process takes approximately four to five months. However, it is important to note that this timeline may vary, depending on availability of funds.
The stages of the process are:
1. Project proposal and application submitted
2. Proposal and application reviewed by Embassy
3. Project is approved or denied (notification in writing of the decision)
4. Negotiation period between Embassy representative and grantee
5. Grant is issued and signed by grantee and Embassy
6. Funds are available for use about 2-3 weeks after grant is signed
The proposal should clearly state: Background of Organization & Project Description that states the following:
• Who will be conducting the project and where
• Methods used to achieve the purpose
• Target audiences
• Plan of follow-up activities, as appropriate
• Expected measureable outcome(s) and method of evaluation
• Approximate time line to accomplish phases of the project
• Outline of media or outreach plan
ELIGIBILITY
Proof of registration as a non-profit organization in DUNS, NCAGE, SAM.GOV, and Grants.gov. Please note that any organization that wishes to apply for U.S. Federal awards will be asked to supply identifying registrations for these numbers on the application package. Registration is on-line and must be done before submitting the application documents. No fees are involved.
