Description:
The In-Country Micro Project Scheme (ICMPS) is a funding programme supported by Irish Aid through the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi that provides small-scale grants to grassroots organisations working to address poverty and injustice.
The key focus areas and priorities of the scheme include strengthening the voice of local communities to influence policy decisions and their implementation at local and national levels, prevention of hunger and improvement of livelihood security, improved access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and HIV prevention, care and support programmes, improved access to and control over resources for marginalised communities, promotion and realisation of human rights, promotion of women’s empowerment and gender equality including initiatives addressing gender-based violence and trafficking of women, and promotion of environmental sustainability with a particular emphasis on actions that combat climate change.
The scheme is designed to support locally driven initiatives implemented by indigenous, not-for-profit organisations that work directly with vulnerable communities. It prioritises sustainable projects that strengthen local capacity and ensure that the most disadvantaged groups are reached first.
Eligible organisations include locally registered NGOs, community-based organisations, non-profit companies or corporate foundations, faith-based organisations engaged in development work, cooperatives, farmer associations, and trade unions, provided they are properly registered and authorised to receive foreign funding. Each applicant must also have a dedicated organisational bank account for receiving grant funds.
Under this scheme, grants typically range between €2,000 and €5,000 per project, with funding covering up to 70% of total project costs while the remaining 30% must be contributed by the organisation or other donors. Each approved project has a maximum duration of one year and funding is determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the proposal and its alignment with programme objectives.
The In-Country Micro Project Scheme offers an opportunity for small organisations to implement community-led development initiatives that address structural inequalities and promote inclusive and sustainable development outcomes at the local level.
