DESCRIPTION:
The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) is accepting entries from all African innovators for the fourth edition of the Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) competition. The IPA honors and encourages innovative achievements that contribute toward developing new products, increasing efficiency or cost savings in Africa.
It aims to mobilize African innovators and entrepreneurs by providing US $ 150,000 for market-oriented solutions that support African-led development. Women, young people, investors, governments and other stakeholders interested in evaluating, investing and maximizing the continent’s resources are also highly encouraged to participate in the innovative and empowering initiative and make a significant change through generous contributions that will accelerate the Africa’s economic growth.

PRIZES
- First Prize – USD100,000 to the innovator with the overall best innovation that meets all the above mentioned IPA criteria with clear business potential
- Second Prize – USD25,000 – to innovator with a commercially driven innovation
- Special Prize for Social Impact Innovation – USD25,000 – to the innovation with best social impact after judging on its social impact in the community/country
- Certificate to all the finalists
- Up to USD5,000 post-prize technical support to each finalists to assist in moving the innovation to the next step.
- Media coverage and additional support might also be mobilized for the finalists.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible innovations must be by Africans for Africa. Africans in the Diaspora can also apply if their innovations are of significance for Africa. The innovation or associated business must be registered in Africa.
- A fully completed application form with a full description of the innovation must accompany each submission; otherwise the entry will be disqualified.
- The innovation description should clearly illustrate the social and/or economic outcome and impact with regard to African development and the priority area chosen, and should be in line with the IPA assessment and selection criteria.
- Application forms and description of the innovation should be in English or French. While the innovations can be conducted in any language including local languages, the submissions should be translated into English or French.
Application Process

- Each question on the application form must be answered or the application will be deemed incomplete and disqualified.
- Applicants are required to attach a letter of support/endorsement from an institution or an authority with knowledge of their innovation.
